The renovation design of the public area in Phase II of Deji Plaza is conceptualized around the “Deji Commercial&Art Bazaar,” aiming to extend a spatial experience enriched with cultural perception and emotional engagement beyond everyday consumption. Departing from the conventional logic of commercial storefronts, the designers redefined the mall's public zone through an inward architectural approach, crafting new spatial interfaces and immersive retail scenes. Through the organic interweaving of modular spaces, the design also creates meandering paths that encourage exploratory shopping and social media–friendly moments, evoking the lively, bustling atmosphere of an urban market.
The fourth-floor public area of Deji Plaza Phase II marks the latest installment of the “Deji Commercial&Art Bazaar” series, following the earlier transformation of the sixth-floor. In this project, the designers invite the public to imagine a deep-sea landscape drifting within a space capsule. Through abstract formal language and metaphorical spatial storytelling, the circulation rhythm, spatial interfaces, and lighting system are seamlessly integrated into a cohesive visual narrative—creating an artistic scene that merges futuristic aesthetics with a sense of natural poetry.
The designers distilled the streamlined contours of a space capsule and the rhythmic patterns of deep-sea currents into the project’s primary linear elements, embedding them into the spatial boundaries and functional layout. Curved storefront façades and decorative surface lines form a continuous enveloping interface—evoking both the enclosed form of a capsule and the undulating rhythm of water. The soft curvature breaks the rigidity of conventional commercial spaces, introducing a fluid spatial experience. Flowing decorative lines on the storefront façades extend organically, creating visual guidance that transforms standardized retail units into narrative vessels within a deep-sea-inspired scene. The thematic spatial storytelling strengthens scene memorability, while the flexible layout promotes natural customer circulation and minimizes dead zones in the traffic flow.
The space is anchored in a tranquil light blue palette, evoking the calm and expansive character of the deep sea. Circular patterns on the floor and ceiling mirror each other, like the reflection of the ocean’s surface from above and below. Along the outer edges, mirrored stainless steel materials are used to enhance visual depth through reflection, creating a dynamic sense of motion reminiscent of water ripples—conveying a floating or deep-diving spatial atmosphere.
To increase brand visibility, the designers intentionally enlarged the shopfront display windows, enhancing both the presentation quality and visual appeal. The interplay between color and glass mimics the clarity of light filtering through water, lending a sense of transparency and fluidity. This not only elevates the visual experience but also softens the tech-forward spatial tone with a calming, breath-like rhythm.
The ceiling-mounted whale installation captures the gentle, gliding motion of a sea creature in motion. Abstract graffiti on the whale’s underside—rendered in a street-art style—breaks the formal sense of order with a playful, expressive touch. Designed with flexibility in mind, the installation can be swapped out to suit different themes or events, allowing the system to adapt to future branding needs and diverse exhibition content.
The escalator lobby connecting the upper and lower floors serves as another spatial highlight. Fully enclosed elevators are framed by linear light strips on the top and sides, creating a passageway atmosphere with a strong sense of perspective. As visitors move between floors, they experience a visual impact and emotional shift akin to traveling through time and space, further enhancing the space’s sense of extraordinary narrative.
In the “Deji Commercial&Art Bazaar” public area renovation project, the designers broke away from conventional models, focusing on creating a distinctive spatial experience through innovative visual aesthetics and the clever use of unusual architectural forms. The commercial space is no longer a mere physical presence but becomes a place that evokes emotional resonance and deep reflection—transforming into a carrier of culture and emotion.
In such spaces, the experience economy is perfectly realized. Designers no longer focus solely on the practicality of the space but prioritize how spatial design can stimulate user engagement and interaction. Every detail is imbued with storytelling, allowing visitors to discover surprises during exploration and find joy through interaction. This differentiated spatial experience not only satisfies people’s pursuit of beauty but also invisibly enhances the space’s value, making it a unique cultural symbol and economic asset for the commercial brand.
